A friend of ours turned us on to this company and I have been a true believer ever since! Founder, Steve Sando has spent years searching the world for rare varieties of beans. He cultivates these beans to keep them in the world and offers them to us through his company, Rancho Gordo. Along with being strikingly beautiful, their taste is beyond compare.
As a vegan, I am always asked about where I get my protein from. Well, here you go. This is my main source. Not only do they have an ample amount of protein, but they are high in fiber which we all know we need in our diet, and, get this. Beans have just as much calcium as milk! They are also full of potassium, phosphorous and zinc.
This is not even the main reason I eat them. I eat them purely for their rich flavor! I love a simple pinto bean soup with cornbread.
